It's a plan ...NEW YORK - We knew it could happen, even though they said it wouldn't. The government is using our money again to haul private companies' hindquarters out of the fire — this time it's troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Another thing is that mortgage brokers can be more resourceful than banks. Because mortgage brokers do not work for only one company, they have more access to mortgages and loans. Greater suitability and better mortgage options are what mortgage brokers bring to their customers....

President George W. Bush urged lawmakers on Tuesday to move quickly in putting into force legislation designed to help prop up mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while declaring the U.S. financial system to be "basically sound." There is no upper age limit set by HUD for the borrower. Nor is there a certain income level that the borrower must achieve in order to buy a home at a certain price. And although income is certainly an important factor, it is simply one of the several determining factors which are used by the HUD to find whether the borrower will be able to repay the mortgage....

You may make your payment each month to your local bank, but chances are good your mortgage is actually owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Mortgage brokers on the other hand are professionals who are peddlers of mortgage products. They are the ones responsible for bringing together mortgage lenders and their borrowers....
