If the GSEs had been able to create a market in "vanilla" subprime--fixed rates, ...The irony of the "subprime" situation, it seems to me, is that we probably all would have been better off if the GSEs had gotten into it in a big way. Another thing is that mortgage brokers can be more resourceful than banks. Because mortgage brokers do not work for only one company, they have more access to mortgages and loans. Greater suitability and better mortgage options are what mortgage brokers bring to their customers....
